Who we are

We are the Burlington County History and Cultural Trust, a local group dedicated to preserving and sharing Burlington County, New Jersey’s history. Our website address is: http://bchistoryandculture.org.

This page explains what information our website collects from visitors and how we use it. We keep this simple because our site exists mainly to share news about our events and projects.

Comments

When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser information. This helps us catch spam.

If you have a Gravatar account (a service that links a profile picture to your email address), an anonymized version of your email address may be sent to Gravatar to check whether you use it. You can read the Gravatar privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will appear next to it.

Images and media

If you upload an image to the website, please avoid uploading photos that contain embedded location data (some cameras and phones save GPS coordinates inside the image file). Visitors can download images from the site and extract location information.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser stores to remember certain things. Our site uses them in a few ordinary ways:

If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address, and website in a cookie. This is just a convenience so you do not have to retype your details next time. These cookies last for one year.

If you have an account and log in, we use cookies to remember your login and display settings. Login cookies last for 2 days, and display setting cookies last for a year. If you choose “Remember Me,” your login stays active for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies. When you visit the login page, a temporary cookie is set to verify that your browser accepts cookies; it contains no personal information and disappears when you close your browser.

If you edit or publish an article, a short-lived cookie is stored that simply notes which post you edited. It contains no personal information and expires after one day.

Content from other websites

Some articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or links from other websites. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited that other website directly. Those websites may collect information about you, use their own cookies, and track your interaction with their content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to them.

Who we share your information with

We do not sell or share your information with anyone for marketing. The only routine exception is that if you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long do we keep your information

If you leave a comment, the comment and its details are kept indefinitely so we can automatically recognize and approve any follow-up comments from you, rather than holding them for review each time.

If you create an account, we store the information in your profile. You can view, edit, or delete that information at any time (the one exception is that you cannot change your username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your rights over your information

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can ask us for an exported copy of the personal information we hold about you. You can also ask us to delete that information. This does not include anything we are required to keep for legal, security, or administrative reasons.

Where your information is sent

Visitor comments may be reviewed by an automated spam-detection service to help keep the site free of junk and harmful content.
