The Burlington County History & Cultural Trust is dedicated to preserving and sharing the remarkable story of Burlington County, New Jersey. Our mission is to connect people to America’s past by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the county’s history and culture, linking what came before with the present and inspiring the generations still to come.
Our vision is to represent all of the county’s residents as we share its ever-evolving story with a wider audience. Burlington County is a land rich in stories and legacies, and we believe every one of them is worth safeguarding.

We stand firm on the principle of cherishing history. Every artifact, every document, and every echo of the past holds meaning, and together they weave the story of this community’s journey. Through our work, we aim to make sure the heritage of Burlington County endures and continues to resonate for years to come.
Our focus on culture
Burlington County’s past is an intricate tapestry, shaped by everyone who lived here. From its earliest settlers to the many waves of immigrants who followed, each has added a thread to the rich fabric of our shared heritage. We are committed to telling those stories, honoring the many cultures that came together to create the county we know today, and making sure those voices are remembered.
Our newest project: restoring Potter’s Field
We are currently working alongside the county to restore the County Cemetery, also known as Potter’s Field. Established in 1791 under a charter that obligated the county to help bury the impoverished and indigent, this cemetery in Pemberton Township is one of the oldest Potter’s Fields in the country. Preserving it is part of our commitment to remembering all who helped shape this community, including those whose stories might otherwise be lost.
